Abstract:
Up to December 2025, China has successfully launched 23 FengYun (FY) meteorological satellites of two generations and four types. In 2025, 8 in-orbit FY satellites were in operational service, with another 2 undergoing in-orbit testing. FY meteorological satellites have achieved an operational layout of multiple satellites in orbit, coordinated operation, in orbit backup, and timely quick scan. Firstly, the article reviews the current status of the FY meteorological satellites, focusing on the monitoring and service capabilities of the new instruments carried by recently launched satellites and their products. Then, the operational applications of FY meteorological satellites in disastrous weather and climate events, environmental disasters, agricultural remote sensing, and space weather are introduced. Finally, several preliminary prospects are proposed for the application and future development of FY meteorological satellite remote sensing.
