Analysis of a Damaging Wind Event in Jiangsu

More Information
  • Based on the data from weather stations in Jiangsu Province, NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data, and Doppler radar from Lianyungang, a gale which caused damage in Jiangsu Province on 1 March 2017 was analyzed. The results show that the gale in this case is a systematic gale caused by a cold front behind the Yellow River cyclone. The structure of the cyclone was baroclinic, and the thermal trough fell behind the height trough. The jet and the cold advection behind the height trough was strong. The main reason that the gale occurred in Funing was the allobaric wind which resulted from 3-hours of positive isallobars. In addition, the enhancement of the cold front resulted from the Yuntai Mountain, which also had a role in strengthening the gale.
