Construction of Weather Modification Experimental Base in Northwest China

  • Key areas in Northwest China are selected to build weather modification experiment demonstration bases. The project rational designs the layout of observation instruments and equipment, and establishes a comprehensive monitoring network of atmosphere, cloud and precipitation with macro and micro three-dimensional structure, including wet, heat and power for mesoscale water vapor and wind field monitoring, cloud and precipitation macro field monitoring and cloud and precipitation micro field detection. The base scientifically designs the outfield test area, carries out outfield operation tests, and carries out research and development of new catalytic operation equipment and catalysts. The construction of the base could effectively promote the capability of independent innovation of China’s weather modification business, providing strong scientific and technological support for the development of weather modification business in Northwest China and the whole country. Meanwhile, the base improves the operation efficiency and level, and increases the actual benefits of weather modification in Northwest China. At present, the base has basically completed the construction of observation system and business platform, and the observation data have been effectively applied in research and experiments.
