Progress of Meteorological Service for Offshore Wind Power in Jiangsu Province

  • With the deepening of energy reform and the advancement of the “Dual Carbon” strategy, offshore wind power, acknowledged as a renewable energy source, has entered a period of rapid development. This calls for the accelerating demand for high-impact weather monitoring, forecasting, and warning services to mitigate severe weather conditions, such as strong convection, sea fog, and high waves, which have a substantial impact on the safety of offshore wind power. This paper presents a systematic analysis and comprehensive summary of the key technologies and innovative achievements in meteorological services for offshore wind power from three aspects: the airborne, sea-based, and land-based observations, the development of key technologies of high-impact weather forecast and early warning services for offshore wind power as well as the implementation of refined meteorological services for offshore wind power. Furthermore, it proposes the future development direction of offshore wind power, aiming to provide a theoretical foundation and technical support both for the research on meteorological services targeted for offshore wind power and for the development of new energy solutions in other coastal provinces and cities.
