Advances in the Application of Artificial Intelligence Technologies in Meteorological Satellite Ocean Remote Sensing

  • To address the high-dimensional, heterogeneous, and massive data characteristics of meteorological satellite ocean remote sensing, artificial intelligence (AI) is driving transformative advances in research and applications in the field. This article outlines AI-enabled novel approaches and solutions for ocean studies and applications using meteorological satellite remote sensing. We emphatically introduce some recent progress in AI methodologies across key domains: Satellite data enhancement and fusion, ocean parameter retrieval, marine weather monitoring, and intelligent decision-making. Meanwhile, current core challenges are identified, including bottlenecks in processing multi-source heterogeneous data, integrating data-driven models with physical mechanisms, and bridging operational service chains. Future research should focus on breaking data processing bottlenecks, developing physics-constrained AI models, exploring cutting-edge AI techniques, and promoting scenario-based smart services. These efforts will fully leverage AI's role in enhancing ocean remote sensing capabilities for "precise monitoring, accurate forecasting, and refined services".
